The Electric Travels Buyer's Guide

Choosing the right electric scooter for you can be confusing, that&#;s why we have put together this buyer&#;s guide which will take you through all the considerations you need to make, to ensure you choose the perfect scooter, for your needs.

If you want to learn more, please visit our website XDAO.

First and foremost, what are you looking to use your electric scooter for? Commuting, family fun or catching up with friends?

If commuting you may need to consider a lightweight scooter which can easily fold and store at work or in the car.  If you are looking to do longer journeys then range, speed and comfort may be more important.

In general terms the lighter, compact electric scooters will have a smaller battery and the trade off is usually a shorter range.  Larger batteries and motor power can achieve longer range but tend to be heavier, it&#;s about striking the right balance which is why we have created a handy selector tool to help you choose the perfect scooter for your needs.

Simply select your required combinations of range, speed and weight to see the right scooter tailored to your needs.

Other practical considerations to help you decide can include comfort, style, maintenance, power output, charge time etc... So, we have outlined some of the key things to look out for:

Tyres

Tyres come in two varieties: pneumatic (air-filled) and airless.

Pneumatic tires have the advantage of shock absorption and better handling/traction (especially in bad weather). The downside to pneumatic tyres is there is more maintenance required than the airless variety. Pneumatic tires are prone to punctures and need be filled with air when they have low pressure.

Airless tyres, on the other hand, have virtually no maintenance required but you will feel more of the bumps in the road so will need to consider the surface and distance you plan to travel on solid tyres.

Range

Range refers to the distance a scooter can travel before it runs out of battery power. A cautious rule of thumb is to take whatever the manufacturer advertises and divide by two. Results from the Electric Scooter Survey show most manufacturers overestimate by 30% in their range claims.

Like all batteries, as time goes on, your battery capacity (and scooter range) will diminish. Think about your commute and how far you travel in a typical day.

Remember that when your scooter runs out of power you can still kick to push it.

Weight

Weight can be a big consideration if you ever need to fold and carry your scooter.

Think about your commute: will you need to walk upstairs, get on a train or lift your scooter into a car?

Most scooters with a reasonable range (>15 miles) will weigh over 17kg. Anything much above 20kg will be difficult to carry for long durations.

Most scooters with a reasonable range (>15 miles) will weigh over 17kg. Anything much above 20kg will be difficult to carry for long durations.

See our selector tool to see what weight, range and speed combination will suit you

Top Speed

Top speed is not a huge factor for most commuters if the scooter can reach 15 mph. In fact, the current recommendation for some EU countries have laws against going over 15.5 mph (25km/h) on a scooter.

Which is the same for Electric Bikes in the UK. In reality, when traveling on roads or in bike lanes, 15.5 mph is fast enough.

If you are interested in the extreme performance type of scooter, those go much faster and we recommend wearing safety gear when traveling at those speeds.

Caution: Always wear a helmet when riding your scooter, at any speed.

Always wear a helmet when riding your scooter, at any speed.

Motor Power

Motor power generally starts at 200 watts and goes all the way up to 800 watts on the EGRET &#; TEN V3X.

For adults, we do not recommend anything under 250 watts for daily commuting. This will be adequate for flat surfaces and very small hills.

If you live in an area with steeper hills, think about going to 350 or 500 watts. Even with 500 watts, your scooter will slow down on medium-sized hills.

At that point, you can always kick to help the scooter. Larger motors will not only help with powering up hills, but they will also get you up to top speed more quickly.

Suspension

Suspension, similar to that in a car, smooths out bumps and indentations in the road. Without it, and especially if you have airless tires, you will feel every bump that you travel over.

If your commute is longer or has more rough terrain to cross, strongly consider purchasing a scooter with suspension.

Suspension can either be attached to the front, rear, or both wheels. Scooters in the Premium Commuter class should have either front or rear suspension.

Lighting

Scooters, like bicycles, can have a white front light and a red rear light. If you ride after dark, it is necessary to have both a front and rear light.

Due to the design of electric scooters, they typically do not have very visible rear lights. If you are going to ride at night, strongly consider adding some flashing red rear lights to your helmet or backpack.

Our range of Livall smart helmets have built in automatic LED lighting including turn signal indicators, handlebar remote control, stereo speakers and Bluetooth technology.

Brakes

There are four main brake types: electric and/or regenerative, foot, drum, and disc. They are listed in order from least to most effective and can be installed on the front, rear, or both tires.

Electric and regenerative brakes are the weakest. If you are traveling at 15+mph and need to stop quickly, these alone will not do the job.

Foot brakes, which are activated by pushing your foot down on the rear fender, cause it to rub against the rear tire, slowing it down. This type of brake has slightly more stopping power but is not as effective as the disc or drum brakes.

Drum Brakes are enclosed inside the wheel hub and are generally lower maintenance than other braking types and have consistent performance in wet conditions.

Disc brakes have the most stopping power and are lighter than drum brakes. They are typically found on the higher end Premium Commuter and High-Performance scooters but may appear on better quality Budget Commuter scooters.

Legislation & Safety

Most importantly, we would like to ensure that you consider all of the legislation and safety aspects and you are fully aware of where you can ride your electric scooter and our recommendations to keep you safe.

At the moment Electric Scooters are classified as Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs), so they're treated as motor vehicles and are subject to all the same legal requirements - MOT, tax, licensing and specific construction. So, because they don't always have visible rear red lights, number plates or signalling ability, they can't be used legally on the roads.

The law covering e-bikes - which are battery-assisted pedal cycles - doesn't currently cover e-scooters, but the government wants to regulate them in a similar way in future.

Privately owned electric scooters are not legal for use on public roads or pavements, acceptable use is on private land with the owners consent.

Electric Travels strongly recommend that you always wear a helmet and appropriate clothing to protect yourself and others when using an Electric Scooter.

Electric Scooters and IP Ratings- What You Need to Know

Electric scooters are electric machines and, as such, are susceptible to water damage. Several electric components in electric scooters, notably the battery and motors, wiring, and throttle, are prone to water damage. In addition to being susceptible to water damage, electric components in electric scooters can also be damaged by mud and grime, especially if the scooter has a low-water resistance level.

With the increased demand for water-resistant electric scooters, nearly all scooters in the market today are resistant to light splashes (IPx4 rating). Several others can also withstand light rain or occasional puddles (IPX5), while several high-end scooters can sustain deep puddles or heavy rain, i.e. IPX6 or higher.

However, even with the highest water resistance rating, it&#;s important to note that no electric scooter is truly waterproof. There&#;s a clear difference between water resistance and being waterproof. Even electric scooters with the best IP rating are still not technically waterproof.

When seeking to buy a new scooter or upgrade from the one you've got, you ought to be informed of the water-resistance (IP) ratings of electric scooters. Here's a complete guide to electric scooters IP ratings, as well as the best waterproof scooters in different price ranges.

What is the Difference between Water Resistant and Waterproof?

Waterproof and water-resistance are two broad terms used to describe fluid penetration behavior with particular devices. While they&#;re often used interchangeably, waterproof and water resistance have clear differences. Water-resistant products are designed in such a way that they form a physical barrier to prevent the entry of fluids. Manufacturers may use a thin coating to make the product or its sensitive components, such as the electronics in electric scooters, impervious to water.

On the other hand, waterproof refers to a greater level of water protection. However, there are no set industry standards that a product must meet to be described as waterproof. If your e-scooter is waterproof, it can withstand snow, rain, and being driven through puddles. But in most cases, manufacturers may advise against riding in the rain or snow for so long as the electric components can be damaged after prolonged exposure to water or extremely low temperatures.

In reality, though, a fully waterproof electric scooter doesn't exist. Even scooters with the best water protection can only be classified as water-resistant. And while the majority of them can sustain some riding through the rain or snow and won&#;t suffer any damage, they&#;re still not technically waterproof.

Nonetheless, waterproof and water-resistance are broad terms with no quantitative analysis. A standard system was developed to rate the level of fluid protection provided by electric products against the ingress of liquids and solids. The system, known as IP ratings (IP stands for ingress protection), provides guidance for the safe use of electric devices, in this case e-scooters, in certain environments and conditions.

What are IP Ratings?

Electric products, including e-scooters have electrical and electronic units/components i.e. motor, battery, sensors, electronic controls, wires, switches, etc. which can deteriorate and malfunction when they get in contact with dust or liquids.

Ingress Protection (IP) Ratings is a system developed by the International Electrochemical Commission (IEC) to standardize the grading of electric products based on their ability to withstand the ingress (intrusion) of liquids or dust. The system has been extensively adopted across the electronic products industry and functions to enlighten consumers about the capability of a particular product to withstand dust and liquids.

The IP rating is indicated by the abbreviation IP and a subsequent two-digit number. The first numeral after IP classifies the protection level pertaining to solid objects like debris and dust particles rated on a scale of X-6. For instance, 1 denotes little protection, while 6 indicates full protection from dust and debris.

The second digit in the IP rating indicates the product&#;s ability to withstand liquids. 0 indicates no protection from liquids while 9 indicates protection from more massive exposure, like water at high pressure and temperatures directed at the electronic from diverse angles, usually associated with steam clean. In certain instances, the letter &#;X&#; can replace either numeral, as popularly seen on budget scooters with an IPX4 rating. In this case, IPX4 would mean that the scooter has only been tested for water resistance and not dust resistance.

The three main points of ingress protection in electric scooters are the dashboard, motor (either in front or rear wheel or both), and the base plate (deck). The deck of the scooter houses the battery (Turboant X7, Levy Plus, Swagtron Swagger 7T, HiBoy Nex5, Segway ES2 and ES4, and some other models have them in the stem), motherboard and the motor controller. The dashboard is another sensitive part of the scooter. It connects to the accelerator, brake sensors, lights, and other parts, and will not function once water or dust penetrates. The motor also consists of electronic components which can be damaged by the ingress of dust and liquids.

Common IP Ratings in Electric Scooters

Almost 40% of e-scooters in the market today are water-resistant, coming with different IP ratings based on the price range. While most manufacturers tend to claim it's safe to ride their models in the rain, it's important to note that we do not have a completely waterproof scooter, at least as of now.

Water is usually the main concern when it comes to IP ratings in e-scooters since the battery, some throttles (especially finger-held designs), and motor(s) are vulnerable to electrical damage caused by water. Moreover, most two-wheeled EVs are tolerant of normal dust found in typical urban environments. Unless you'll be riding your scooter in severe dust storms, the dust protection rating isn't much of a concern.

When it comes to IP ratings, nearly all the electric scooters can tolerate light splashes, i.e., IPX4. Many electric scooters can ride in light showers or glide across shallow puddles, i.e. IPX5, IP54, and above. But, very few electric scooters can withstand heavy downpour and immersion in deep-seated puddles, i.e., IPX6 and higher. There is increasing demand for waterproof scooters, and most in today's market are IP54 water resistance rated.

Below is a table showing common IP ratings in e-scooters along with their interpretations and examples of e-scooters.

IPX5

Water hitting the scooter in low-pressure jets or through a nozzle won&#;t cause damage.

Either no data is available or the scooter has not been tested for debris protection.

Safe for riding in light constant rain with shallow puddles.

However, take note that advice varies with different manufacturers. Some user manuals may state: &#;safe to use in most wet conditions&#; while others will claim "do not ride in the rain or get wet" and "ride in wet weather but avoid deep puddles". Therefore, be keen to confirm the specific manufacturer instructions in regards to the IPX5 water resistance rating.

Generally, an IPX5 e-scooter is resistant to water under medium pressure. Therefore, e-scooters with this rating are unlikely to get damaged when riding in wet conditions and also can handle riding in steady, light rain and puddles. However, since riding instruction varies with manufacturers, you&#;ll want to confirm with your manufacturer. Also, there&#;s no guarantee that heavy rain won&#;t damage the electric components.

Most user manuals call it weatherproof and safe for use in heavy rain and off-road environments.

Safe for use in all-terrain including dusty, off-road terrains. The scooter is also safe for riding in constant rain and puddles. Nonetheless, check out for the manufacturer's instructions before riding in heavy rain.

Aovo Pro

IPX7/ IP57

Temporary immersion in water (1 meter for 30 minutes)

Either no data is available or the scooter has not been tested for debris protection

High water resistance. The scooter can handle immersion in water. However, manufacturers still discourage riding in heavy rainfall.

IPX7 water resistance rating is hardly ever found in electric scooters. While IPX7 means that the scooter can sustain temporary immersion in water for up to 30 minutes, the manufacturer still advises users against use in very heavy rain. This is because a product with an IPX7 rating has not necessarily achieved an IPX6 rating. IPX7 means that it has been tested for water ingress when the product is submerged. BUT, this is a very different test condition from &#;lower&#; ratings, which all involve jets or sprays of water

Very rare to find an e-scooter with this ranking.

Best Waterproof Electric Scooter as Per Price Range

Best under $300 - Go Trax GXL V2

The GoTrax GXL V2 Commuter is the best electric scooter in terms of water resistance at a price below $300. This amazing scooter boasts of IP54 water resistance rating, meaning it's protected against substantial dust penetration and low-pressure water splashes from any angle for 10 minutes. As mentioned earlier, IPX4 is the most common IP rating in electric scooters today. However, while this rating is pretty common among modern electric scooters, most budget scooters under $300 are not as highly rated&#;a lot of them are not even water-resistant.

GoTrax GXL V2 stands out from the competition and provides a sufficient water resistance rating that is ideal for the avid commuter residing in rainy environments. You&#;ll be hard-pressed to find a budget commuting electric scooter with that level of protection at its low price point. With an IP54 water resistance rating, the GXL V2 commuter has the same IP rating as that of other highly-priced scooters, notably the Apollo Explore, VSETT 10+, and Kaabo Wolf King.

An IP54 resistance rating provides some degree of water resistance and is thus safe for riding in steady, light rain and puddles. However, while the scooter is unlikely to get damaged by wet riding conditions, be aware that there is no guarantee that prolonged use in wet conditions won&#;t harm the scooter&#;s electronics. But that&#;s not the only impressive thing about this scooter. The GXL V2 comes with additional qualities that make it a decent budget commuting scooter.

To begin with, the scooter features a sleek design with premium build quality. It also offers decent performance coming with a front-wheel-drive 250-Watt hub BLDC motor, which propels the scooter to a top speed of 15.5 mph/ 25 kph. A 36-Volt battery powers the scooter to a real-world-tested range of around 12 miles/ 19Km. It takes only 3-4 hours to achieve a full charge. Additionally, the ride quality is amazing for that price range thanks to the 8.5-inch air-filled tires, which perform adequately even in wet conditions.

The scooter is incredibly lightweight (26.4 lbs.) with a one-step folding mechanism allowing for seamless portability. Thanks to the spacious grippy deck, riders weighing up to 220 lbs can enjoy a comfortable ride on paved roads. The scooter can tackle some light off-roading, at the expense of speed and comfort. It can also slowly scale small hills. The GXL V2 also keeps you safe, thanks to the front regenerative and rear disk brakes, but you may want to give yourself adequate stopping distance as the brakes aren&#;t as powerful.

The scooter has a mostly clean look, with a sleek display allowing you to keep tabs on your speed and battery life as well as give you the option to initiate cruise control. Your left-placed brake lever, right-placed thumb throttle and centrally located bell are the only controls on the handlebars. Thanks to the headlight and three reflectors, you remain visible to other drivers, but you won&#;t see too clearly from the low illumination.

Overall, the GoTrax GXL V2 Commuter is the best budget commuting scooter under $300 in terms of water resistance capabilities. Very few e-scooters in this budget category offer water resistance, compromising functionality in wet weather conditions. And other than the IP54 water resistance rating, the GXL V2 ticks the bill for reliability and value for money. It's no wonder that the scooter is one of the best-selling budget electric scooters.

Under $600 - Turboant X7 Pro

One of the most popular e-scooters, the Turboant X7 Pro is also among the best waterproof e-scooters under $600. The scooter boasts of a water-resistance rating of IPX4 meaning that it&#;s protected against water splashes from all directions, including from low-pressure jets of water from any angle. With such an IP rating, the X7 Pro is safe for occasional riding on wet ground, in fog, light and sparse rain, and light off-road.

Regular use in wet conditions can cause water damage, but you can push the boundaries as long as you remain aware that it&#;s at your own risk. To be safe, it's best to occasionally ride the scooter in sparse, light rain or wet conditions. Avoid heavy downpours or extremely wet conditions. Besides its IPX4 water-resistant rating, the Turboant X7 Pro is the perfect choice for scooter enthusiasts looking for an all-round commuting e-scooter with an exhilarating top speed, an impressive maximum range, and a decent ride quality.

The Turboant X7 Pro comes with a manufacturer-stated top speed of 15 mph, but real-world tests have managed to achieve a 16 mph top speed, thanks to the 350W motor. The motor also produces sufficient torque to propel the rider up hills with a 20% incline grade. And in addition to the decent top speed, the X7 Pro also excels in terms of range. It has a longer than average range i.e. 30 miles thanks to the 36 V, 10Ah Li-ion detachable Lithium-ion battery.

Riders can invest in a second battery where the drained battery can be swapped with a fully charged one to extend the range to another 30 miles-how convenient. The only concern with attaching the battery in the stem instead of the deck is that it makes the scooter's front pretty heavy, and slightly uncomfortable when carrying. Nonetheless, the scooter is still portable thanks to its lightweight design (it weighs 30 lbs) coupled with an easy folding mechanism.

While this scooter, like most others in the category, lacks suspension, it still delivers a comfortable ride. This is facilitated by the air-filled 10&#;&#; tires, a large grippy deck, sturdy stem and ergonomic handlebars. The silicone padded throttle is easy on the fingers and riders will enjoy the smooth acceleration. The X7 has a high-mounted headlight that illuminates dark paths, while the reflectors add to visibility in dimly lit tracks. And, you can reliably stop the scooter thanks to the triple braking&#;a disk brake, a fender brake and an electronic brake.

The Turboant X7 Pro is a reliable scooter, and with scooters at its price range still not guaranteeing water resistance, the X7 remains a must-have. You also get additional features like cruise control, a display and a high weight capacity of 275 lbs if you&#;re not completely sold, yet.

Under $900- Ninebot Max

The Ninebot Max is the best-waterproofed e-scooter in the mid-budget category. The scooter features an IPX5 water resistance rating meaning it's protected against water jets from any angle. As such, the scooter is safe for riding in steady, light rain and shallow puddles. With a 5 for the liquid rating, the Ninebot Max is ranked as one of the most waterproofed e-scooters, trailing behind the EMove Cruiser, but ranking ahead of almost every other e-scooter in the market currently.

Ninebot Max's impressive water-resistance level has been instrumental in driving sales-the scooter has recorded huge sales volumes and may soon surpass the hugely popular Xiaomi models. And why wouldn&#;t it, when the scooter is safe to ride in light showers, snow, or any sort of adverse weather without sustaining any water-related defects. Again, the Ninebot Max improves on the mistakes and successes of other popular commuting scooters notably the Xiaomi M365 models and the Ninebot ES models, to bring an undeniably reliable machine.

Besides the water resistance, there&#;s a lot the scooter offers. A 350 Watt (700 Watts Max Power), rear-domiciled, BLDC motor propels the scooter to a top speed of 18.6 mph/30 km h, with claims of hitting the 19 mph mark on a downhill slope. It&#;s also possible to unlock the scooter to achieve a higher top speed thanks to a bunch of firmware customizations that can be unlocked via the Segway app. The motor also comes with decent torque for hill climbing&#;the scooter can conquer a manufacturer-cited 20% grade hill, without losing too much power.

The 36-Volt, 551 Watt-hours battery offers an impressive range of 40 miles/ 64 Km. While you can be sure to attain a slightly reduced range in real-life riding conditions, the scooter's range is still remarkable and beats almost all mid-budget e-scooters, most of which have half that range. However, the scooter does take 6 hours to fully recharge. The scooter comes with three-speed modes, riding on eco will extend battery life. And, you also get to enjoy cruise control for a more comfortable riding experience.

The design and execution of the Ninebot Max are top-notch&#; the design integrates premium build quality And despite the lack of suspensions, the Ninebot Max is capable of providing decent ride quality, achieved by a combination of large 10&#;&#;, self-healing tubeless pneumatic tires, a large 7&#;&#; deck, a thick stem, and a beefy build which deliver excellent ride stability. The Max is also portable thanks to its ultra-solid folding mechanism and 42 lbs lightweight. The folding mechanism encompasses a folding latch that holds the lever, keeping the stem upright and solid for easy portability.

The Max also integrates convenience via the Segway app that can lock and unlock the scooter, besides monitoring riding metrics and keeping tags on scooter diagnostics. You can also set the energy recovery function when braking to your preferred mode on the app. Speaking of which, the maintenance-free drum brakes are efficient at stopping, with a stopping distance of under 3.5 meters from top speed. The high-mounted headlight is bright enough to illuminate dark pathways, and you can set the taillight to keep blinking during night rights.

Overall, the Ninebot Max beats other scooters in the category, not only in terms of water resistance capability but also in all-round performance. It's no surprise that the scooter is among the bestselling e-scooters of all time.

Best under $1,200- Apollo City

If you&#;re considering buying a water-resistant e-scooter at a price of less than $1, 200, the Apollo City is one of the best options to consider. The scooter also boasts 15 degrees of gradeability, which is above average for commuting e-scooters. The 48-Volt 13.2 Ah battery with Dynavolt BMS system powers the scooter to a distance of 28 miles/ 45Km on a single battery charge, when riding on eco. Heavier riders, or riding on higher speed modes reduces the overall range. The massive battery recharges in an impressive 4-5 hours.

In addition to the performance, the Apollo City stands out with its outstanding and reliable build quality. The aesthetics alone are enough to make anyone consider the purchase&#;there are beautiful blue accents across the lever, suspension, handlebars and the deck plate. The acceleration and torque are way above your ordinary budget commuting scooter therefore the scooter is recommended for riders with some commuting experience. The finger-style throttle may not be the best companion on long journeys, but the scooter also comes with cruise control.

Additionally, the Explore can power you through a tested 30-mile range, not much lower than the manufacturer-cited 34 miles. The scooter is powered by a 52V 18 Ah battery with Dynavolt cells, guaranteeing optimum performance. The battery charges in about 4-5 hours if you get a fast charger, but takes 8 hours using a standard charger using a fast charger.

With a thrilling top speed, high braking power is necessary for this scooter. Thankfully, the high-quality front and rear disc brakes offer stellar performance, delivering strong stopping power to slow you down smoothly and efficiently without feeling jerky or unstable. The scooter also comes with adjustable regenerative braking to increase stopping precision and prolong the range every time you&#;re braking. From a speed of 15.5 mph, the scooter will stop in about 3.3 meters.

It is also a little heavy which gives the scooter stability&#;it weighs 52 lbs. The scooter is, however, slightly portable over short distances, and with the collapsible stem and handlebars, becomes easy to fit in small spaces.

The Explore accommodates diverse riders, through the high weight capacity and the height-adjustable stem that can be customized to individual riders&#; heights. It also adapts to night riding quite well with the LED light strips running the stem length and under-deck lighting enhancing low light visibility and aesthetics. The scooter also comes with low-mounted dual headlights that might call for a brighter post-purchase one installed. You might also need to purchase a horn to increase the scooter&#;s safety.

Overall, the Apollo Explore with its top speed, more extensive range, good ride quality, one-of-a-kind warranty, and IP54 water resistance rating is a true all-rounder, ideal for scooterists looking to upgrade from their starter scooter to a big-league machine.

Under $- Apollo Pro 60V

As such, you can comfortably ride the scooter in light to moderate rainfall. The plush, split rim 10-inch pneumatic tires coupled with the spacious anti-slip deck support riding in wet conditions.

With the IP54 rating, you can also comfortably explore dusty and loose-gravel off-road trails without worrying about the scooter's electric components getting damaged. This is further complemented by an excellent suspension system consisting of dual spring shocks in the front and rear, delivering a smooth riding experience in bumpy terrain. For extreme off-roading, Apollo suggests that you purchase tread-heavy winter tires for improved traction.

The Apollo Pro benefits from the highly efficient 60V 21Ah Wh Samsung battery that delivers a range of up to 56 miles. The battery charges in 10 hours, but you can reduce the charging time to half by using a fast charger that can be purchased at an extra cost. Riding on a Single motor and Eco mode highly preserves the battery and gives you the best range. Both buttons are fixed on the right side of the handlebars.

The 77 lbs total weight comes in handy to provide additional stability in wet conditions. However, it&#;s a tad heavier than the ordinary scooter and doesn&#;t fold to a small package compromising on the overall portability. It is, however, comfortable to ride on thanks to the large deck with an extended kick plate for extra legroom. The scooter accommodates riders weighing up to 331lbs.

The scooter is a high-quality machine, having gone through 3 rounds of quality checks. This is partly what gives Apollo confidence with their 24-month warranty, which is quite appealing for a scooter at this price tag. The quality of the braking mechanism is especially impressive, with Zoom hydraulic disk brakes facilitating a stopping distance of under 3 meters from a speed of 15.5 meters. The Pro&#;s dual suspension system is also best-in-class, and your ride comfort is guaranteed.

For night rides, the low mounted headlight is not sufficient for illumination but makes you visible on the road. In addition, the taillight blinks when stopping, advising other motorists of your intent. The scooter also comes with multiple reflectors for you to remain visible in low light situations. Riders will also enjoy the built-in control display on the handlebar that keeps you informed on your riding stats as well as allows you to customize different aspects of the scooter.

Overall, the Apollo 60V is a formidable scooter designed for experienced scooterists in need of something extra. The scooter offers high-end performance in terms of top speed and range and can handle both urban and off-road terrains even in wet weather thanks to the IP54 water resistance rating, thick and grippy pneumatic tires, spacious anti-slip rubber deck, and dual spring suspension system. With prices starting at $2,299, the Apollo Pro 60V is not the cheapest investment, but it&#;s absolutely worth the money.

Under $- Kaabo Wolf Warrior 11 Pro+

From its rugged, chunky look, you can tell the Wolf Warrior is designed for thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies. The scooter is immediately striking with the dual stem, the flashy Kaabo branding, and a visibly solid look. The scooter comes at a steep price tag, and premium features to boot. We start with the IPX4 water-resistant rating, which indicates that the Wolf Warrior is protected from water splashes from any direction and low water pressure for 10 minutes. It also greenlights the Warrior to ride through muddy puddles with a guarantee of no damage.

Riding in wet conditions is further supported by a bunch of features, including the gigantic 11-inch knobby off-road tires that generate increased traction in wet weather keeping you balanced and stable. Additionally, the oversized tires offer an impressive level of dampening across a variety of terrain both on-road and off-road, keeping your rides both smooth and comfortable. The spacious anti-slip deck with a kickplate extension also comes in handy to enhance standing stability and keep debris from hitting your feet.

Riding comfort has also been achieved by the functional shock-absorbing system encompassing massive front dual hydraulic forks and rear dual C-spring suspension. The intense suspension system comes to life as you hit sand, grass, rocks, gravel, bumps and all manner of off-road obstructions. And while the Off-road Wolf Warrior with the knobby tread are great for the wild, they respond slightly differently on city streets. For this, you can opt for the Street version with 11&#;&#; tubeless pneumatics, if you&#;re not much of an excursionist.

The well-built chunky frame is rigged with dual W motors that give a combined peak power output of W. This facilitates a stunning acceleration rate. Additionally, the powerful motors allow the scooter to hit top speeds of 50 mph with 45% gradeability. Riders opt to choose between riding in Eco/Turbo, and Single/Dual motors, which determines the power output and maximum range achievable. To stop the scooter reliably from whatever speed you&#;re on, Kaabo utilizes Zoom, full hydraulic brakes with ABS.

The other key selling point for the Kaabo Wolf Warrior is the range. The scooter comes with either an LG MJ1 or Samsung 35E battery, rated at 60V 35Ah 2.1 Kwh. This battery powers the scooter through a manufacturer-stated 93 miles range, with real-world tests achieving 70 miles. You can monitor these and other riding stats on the Ey3 integrated display. However, note that on a single standard charger, the scooter takes 17.5 hours to fully charge, while a fast charger paired with a standard charger cuts the charging time to 5.8 hours. This range on the Wolf Warrior is considerably longer than other e-scooters in the same price range, notably the Ludicrous and the Apollo Pro 60V.

Owing to its massive motors, ultra-chunky frame, and large battery, the Wolf Warrior is considerably heavy, weighing 101 lbs. As such, you won't be able to lift it and carry it around like an ordinary commuting scooter. The weight compromises portability but adds to the scooter's stability for greater control during wet weather and off-road conditions. The combination of the immense weight and the grippy tread on the tires offers enough downward force to generate the traction needed to prevent skidding. The Wolf Warrior is not portable&#;but who would want to carry a scooter that readily offers enormous power, range and all-terrain capability?

The Wolf Warrior Pro+ allows you to customize settings on the display. The handlebars also feature a loud (motorcycle-grade) horn and power control buttons. In addition to the two super-bright front headlights and half-enclosed taillights, the scooter also comes with auxiliary front and rear deck-embedded lights for enhanced visibility at night and added aesthetics&#;the scooter also comes with underdeck lights for the same purpose.

Overall, the Wolf Warrior is an extreme performance scooter that will serve riders weighing below 331 lbs, and able to afford the $2,599 price mark. And compared to other extreme performance scooters, notably the Dualtron Ultra, the Kaabo Wolf Warrior Pro+ offers greater value for money.

Best Overall Water Resistance Scooter- EMove Cruiser ()

The EMove Cruiser is the best scooter in regards to water-resistance. The scooter is the most waterproof electric scooter in the market currently, coming with an IPX6 water resistance rating. With such a rating, the scooter is protected against a high-pressure jet of water (12.5mm diameter) from any angle. The scooter is therefore safe for riding in steady rain and through deep-seated puddles. This is the scooter built to weather storms, should the needs arise, but take that with a pinch of salt and remember that it is not entirely waterproof.

The scooter features excellent fender protection when riding through puddles. Riding under wet conditions is further supported by the spacious anti-slip deck, with two runs of metal between the metal. The deck with a clearance of 4&#;&#; has 21&#;&#; x 10&#;&#; usable space, which could be the longest of any scooter category. Besides that, the scooter rolls on 10-inch tubeless pneumatic tires, which provide excellent traction in wet conditions. The dual spring suspension teams up with the pneumatic tires to provide comfortable rides both on-road and off-road. And what&#;s more, the scooter&#;s immense weight at 52 lbs adds to its stability and provides added damping against vibrations over bumpy terrains.

The EMove Cruiser also excels in other aspects including performance, build quality, ride comfort, and safety. The scooter's construction points to fine engineering with premium finishing to sustain daily use and abuse. The scooter features a rigid frame that can support riders weighing up to 352 pounds, allowing for use by a wide range of riders. Still, on the build quality, all electronic components are sealed for maximum water protection. The aftermarket mods include an adjustable handlebar, twist/thumb throttle, a rear handle, a seat and a carrier trunk, all of which allow riders to further customize the scooter for optimal performance.

The Cruiser offers a manufacturer-cited range of up to 62 miles/100 km on a single charge. Real-world tests on conservative driving went 56 miles, while fast riding resulted in 47 miles. This is thanks to the massive 52V 30Ah Wh high-quality LG MJI battery that recharges in 9-12 hours using a standard charger. The remarkable range is complemented by the scooter's impeccable top speed of 30.5 mph against a manufacturer-cited 33mph. The scooter is propelled by a W, single rear drive hub BLDC motor with a W peak power&#;enough torque to climb a 20% gradient.

The dual hybrid XTECH Zoom 140mm semi-hydraulic disc brakes are responsible for bringing this scooter to a stop. They are operated by two levers on either side of the handlebar. The handlebars also come with a key switch and voltmeter on the left, an integrated crystal clear display with a finger-style throttle, USB port and three buttons on the left&#;turn signal indicators, headlight and eclectic horn button. The parts feature plug and play cabling with a standard 6-pin connector for electrical components making the parts easy to assemble. The handlebars fold to complement the folding telescopic stem for portability, despite the 52 lbs weight.

You get plenty of lighting for nighttime illumination and visibility. Besides the bright low mounted headlight (which could be higher), the Cruiser has deck lights on the front and rear. The rear lights function as the turn signals, complementing the tail/brake light in informing other motorists of intent. And for aesthetics, the Cruiser comes in a wide variety of colour finishes: black, white, orange, purple, and red. The EMOVE Cruise branding on the stem and deck also makes this scooter stand out in a crowd.

The old 600W Cruiser only rode to 26.2 mph, to a conservative range of 50.3 miles, but most other features remain constant. However, both EMove Cruisers remain the best scooters in terms of water resistance, and they don't compromise on performance and ride quality either. They are our top choice for water proof electric scooters suitable for year-round daily commuters.

Best Water Resistant Electric Scooter for Kids- Voyager Ion

From the list above, you might have realized that all the scooters discussed are not kid-friendly. Most electric scooters made for kids are not water-resistant because what would a kid be doing riding a scooter in the rain? The Voyager Ion is an exception and comes with a water resistance rating of IP55. With this electric scooter IP rating, the Voyager is protected against a medium pressure jet from any angle for 3 minutes (such as a garden hose) as well as significant dust ingress. As such, your little one can still enjoy riding the scooter in light showers or playing around the sprinkler.

While the scooter supports riders weighing up to 220 lbs. / 100Kg, its dimensions are rather small and adults will struggle to comfortably stand. Youths with smaller body frames can try riding the scooter though it was specifically made for bigger kids and teenagers. The top speed is also not thrilling for mature riders, with a claimed top speed of 12.5 mph/20 kph. A 250 hub BLDC front-wheel motor propels the scooter, and its front location provides some torque, enough to go up to 15° gradeability.

The scooter is fitted with a Lithium-Ion battery with a 24 V 5 Ah 120 Wh battery that achieves an impressive range of 7 miles / 11 km. The 6&#;&#; solid tires are maintenance-free and offer decent ride quality on typical urban terrains despite the lack of suspensions. The scooter also comes with a cruise control functionality which is activated after holding the throttle for several seconds.

For safety, adults can cap the top speed via the 4-speed gears: P0-P3. The scooter also comes with an electronic brake activated by a left thumb control and a stomp brake. The deck is covered in grip tape to ensure a stable stand. In addition, night safety and low light riding are enhanced by the 5-LED front headlight and a blinking taillight/ brake light.

The scooter is simple and minimalistic. It comes in black with red accents. It weighs 18 lbs and is foldable to guarantee portability and easy storage. Overall, if you&#;re looking to buy your little one an e-scooter and you live in a rain-prone area, the Voyager Ion is worth the under $200 price tag.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I Waterproof my e-scooter?

While it's possible to waterproof your e-scooter using a variety of methods, none of these methods has been proven effective in waterproofing electric scooters. Improving water resistance (including a thorough web search) can be through getting a waterproof cover for your scooter, taping the gaps and holes in the deck, and sealing non-functional holes with silicone or superglue. Therefore, if you need to waterproof your scooter, the best option would be to upgrade to a scooter with a better water resistance rating.

Can I ride my waterproofed e-scooter in the rain?

Riding a waterproofed e-scooter in rainy weather depends on the specific water resistance rating as well as the manufacturer's instructions. Scooters with IPX6, IP57, IPX7, IP66, and IP65 water-resistance ratings are generally safe for riding in heavy rains. However, you should be keen to follow the manufacturer&#;s instructions even with these ratings. Also, apart from water-resistance ratings, other scooter features such as the type of tires determine whether it&#;s safe to ride in the rain.

My e-scooter doesn&#;t have an IP rating: How can I tell if it&#;s waterproof?

Electric scooters with no IP rating can mean two things. Either it has not been tested for its water protection capabilities OR it underwent the test but did not perform up to standards. If the IP rating is not indicated in the scooter, the best approach would be to contact the store where you bought the device or the manufacturer and ask for their advice as it might vary from brand to brand and model to model.

Can I improve the Water Resistance of my e-scooter?

The internet is awash with various means of improving the water resistance rating of an e-scooter. However, none of these methods has been technically proven to work. Therefore, to be on the safe side, you may not want to try out these methods to enhance the water resistance rating of your scooter. Instead, save and upgrade to a scooter with a better water resistance rating.

Can you Ride an E-scooter in the Snow/ Winter?

Well, it depends on the water resistance rating of your e-scooter as well as the manufacturer's instructions regarding riding in wet conditions. It's possible to ride scooters with high IP ratings such as IPX6 in snow. However, there are a whole lot of things to consider such as the riding temperature because some batteries may not function below 5 degrees celsius. again, your tires may not have sufficient grip in wet weather. Just check with your manufacturer to confirm the clear requirements and conditions for riding in the snow.

Can I store my water-resistant scooter outside?

No! Even if your scooter is fully waterproof, it's technically not advisable to store it outside. This is because prolonged exposure of the scooter to the outdoor weather can corrode the metallic parts, compromising the scooter's build. Additionally, the temperature changes can damage sensitive parts in the scooter including the battery and controllers. For best results and durability, it's best to store e-scooters indoors in a cool dry place. Wipe off any dust, moisture, or dirt before storing your precious two-wheeled electric scooter.
