CRI is a measure of the ability of a light source to render the original color of the object illuminated by the light source. The original color is defined by the color of the object when it is illuminated by sunlight.
The closer the color of the object rendered by the light source is to the color of the same object under the sun, the higher the color rendering index of the light source. The value of CRI ranges from 0 to 100. By definition, sunlight has a perfect CRI with a value of 100.
Note: The higher the CRI value, the better the quality in terms of the light source's ability to render colors. This is important for lighting applications where color is important.
For example, if you need to light up your meat counter, then if you don’t want the meat to have an old, brown hue, then the color rendering of red is essential. The best CRI is to faithfully replicate the colors of goods and products in the store.

You may have noticed the produce area where the supermarket sells vegetables and fruits.
When using a light strip with a high color rendering index, the product presents a natural saturated color, which looks juicy, shiny and fresher. Therefore, they are clearly more attractive to customers.
The same goes for fresh meat. Under the light zone with high color rendering index, the meat is purple red and looks fresher. If the CRI is lower than 80, the color of the illuminated object will be distorted, as if it is covered by a gray veil. The object looks lacklustre and dull.
From the perspective of protecting human eyesight, long term use of light strips requires a CRI higher than 80. Light with a CRI lower than 80 will affect the human eye's ability to distinguish colors. Prolonged exposure to light with a color rendering index of less than 80 may cause various vision problems. you may have some question about the CRI, what's different with high CRI and low CRI? here you will get answer: What is CRI? What is high color rendering index?
All Yiford LED COB strips have CRI 90+. In order to meet your professional needs, we also provide CRI 95+ strip lights.
Led strip lights are increasingly popular for general lighting in the home. You’ve probably heard the arguments in favour of LEDs: led strip lights are more efficient, brighter, more durable, don’t produce much heat, easy to control and program… the list goes on. It is precisely because of these advantages that we have a large number of LED strip lights in our range.
One of the most popular installation methods is indirect LED strip lighting, as shown in the picture below. Another way is efficient target lighting with LED strip. When the led strip is installed inside an aluminium profile, it is called led rail lighting, led profile lighting or linear led lighting. The versatility of aluminium profiles makes it a very popular choice, offering a wide range of solutions for both commercial applications such as shops, galleries, work spaces and residential lighting. There is also a wide range of prices depending on the type of tape. When buying LED strip lights, there are many things to consider to ensure you get the right type of light for your needs. In this article, we will go through the important elements of LED strip lighting and LedStore's strip products as fully as possible.
The LED strip lighting category is a broad one. Depending on how you plan to use LED strip lights, you may need, for example, a high-powered, dot-free, temperature-controlled strip, or a low-powered, low-dot monochrome strip. They all have a high colour rendering index (CRI) in common, ensuring high quality lighting. For example, IP65 protected LED strip lights are suitable for outdoor and humid areas because they have a protective surface that makes them waterproof. Below is a brief description of each type of LED strip light, but they will be discussed in more detail later in this guide. The most common basic length of Led strip light is a 5 metre roll on LedStore, and can be divided into 3 categories:
HELMEILE – led light strips, SMD 2835, 5050 or 3527 using conventional dotted led light strips. There are 30-240 Led circuits per metre. The LED circuits are usually in groups of 6 LEDs, and the cut-off spacing is 2.5 – 16 cm, depending on the spacing of the LEDs. A separate control circuit appears next to the Led circuits in the strip. There is a wide range of bead types in different light intensities, Kelvin, RGB colours, including waterproof to IP65.
SOLO – led light strips, COB technology. The new generation of dot-free LED strip lights have been in our range since 2021. There are 360-840 LED circuits per metre depending on the luminous intensity of the LED strip. The cutting spacing is 2.5 – 5 cm. Under the Led circuitry is a layer containing the control circuit. These SOLO tapes are manufactured on a durable 12 mm wide or 5 mm PCB base in the SOLO Slim model. Choice of multiple light intensities, dimmable, RGB colours and waterproof with IP65 protection.
NEON – led strip light IP65, with Helmeile technology, but with a silicone body through which the light passes completely dotlessly. The body of the Led strip light is moulded in a ready-made LED strip and these are available in 24V DC or directly connected to 230V mains. Socket plugs ready at both ends of the reel. The 24V NEON led strip light can be cut every 5cm. DO NOT CUT The 230V light strip!

When buying LED strip lights, it is important to consider the number of LEDs per metre. For brighter output and a more even beam, you should choose an LED strip light with LED circuits in a higher density per metre. If the LEDs are too far apart, they will produce a dotted light instead of a continuous line of light when viewed directly. This is a matter of appearance and will affect how the end result looks.
Note that LED density is not the only factor determining brightness and light quality. If the LED strip light has a single-tone LED circuit, e.g. 3000K or 4000K, it always produces more light per circuit than a temperature controlled (CCT) LED strip light. The colour temperature adjustable strip has both warm and cold LED circuits in parallel, and by adjusting the mixing ratio of the two, the desired colour temperature of the white light is achieved.
For example, a HELMEILE 4000K 14.4W led strip has 120 LEDs per metre and a TUNNELMA 22W led strip has 192 LEDs per metre, but the monochrome led circuit is capable of producing more light. Of the Led light strips, our densest strip is the SOLO CCT 14.4W with 840 LEDs per metre, but for light output the Helmeile type 17W/m TASAINEN 240 LEDs per metre is better. So the number of LEDs does not tell the whole truth.
As LED technology continues to evolve, LED strip lights are also constantly improving. This does not mean that all tapes are very bright or better than the previous ones. in some cases, you may not even want the light to be bright. An example of a low-power led strip is accent lighting on a shelf or plinth.
The brightness of LEDs is expressed in LUMENS. Depending on where you install your LED strip lights, you will probably want a certain level of lumens. For example, a 7.2W/m HELMEILE produces 500 lumens per metre or a 22W/m CCT SOLO led strip light produces 1300 lumens per metre.
For mood lighting, you probably don’t need anything brighter than 200 lumens per metre, but there is no hard and fast rule here – the light output depends on personal preference and the mood you’re going for. Of course, also materials with a light reflecting surface. Dark colours eat up a lot of light and dark surfaces require MUCH more light than white surfaces. Simple, isn’t it? =)
When you use LED strips for general lighting purposes in a room, and not just for mood creation, calculating the wattage becomes a degree more difficult. Brightness needs depend on the direction of the light, its distance from the object (the area you intend to illuminate), personal preferences and, again, materials. In Finland, for example, the Finnish Lighting Society has published recommendations on the amount of light in different rooms that are worth looking at.
Make sure you take into account the lumens and lengths required for each LED strip, as well as the lighting directions. Indirect LEDs compared to perpendicular LEDs illuminate in a completely different way. LedStore’s lighting design professionals can help you determine the right amount of light for your space. Our LED strip lights come in a wide range of monochrome, temperature-controlled and multicolour LED strip (CCT, RGBW or RGB+CCT). In their simplest form, LED strip lights produce a single shade of white light; warm white 3000K or neutral white 4000K.
Colour-changing LED strip lights are called RGB (Red, Green, Blue) strip lights. These LED strip lights can display any colour in a red-green-blue mix, effectively 16.8 million different colours. RGBW- led lights are the most common colour-changing strip lights. In addition to the colours, they also feature a monochrome white (W=white) light. Theoretically, RGB light is centred on white light, but if you want to use a white LED strip that is also pleasing to the eye and to the viewer, the RGB strip must have its own circuit, RGBW. The LED lights on the strip alternate between RGB and White diodes, so that the light can produce multicoloured effects, but also normal white when you need it.
When you combine RGB with white light tone control, you have RGB+CCT. The picture shows an example of six colours and three shades of white.
Colour temperature (CCT) is a concept we use to distinguish the different shades of white that LEDs can produce. (Colour) temperature indicates how warm or cool the light looks. The temperature is expressed in Kelvin (K). Higher temperatures represent cold colours (blue tint) and lower temperatures represent warmer colours (yellow tint).
Adjustable white lighting has become a very popular lighting trend. This type of lde strips offers multiple CCT colours on a single LED strip and requires its own controller, just like RGB lighting. Instead of CCT LED strip lights producing a vibrant rainbow of colours, adjustable white lighting changes the mood of your room from 2500K warm white to 6500K cool white.
When you buy LED strip lights, you should also have an idea of how you are going to install them. For some strips, such as NEON led strips, it’s simple: cut a 10mm groove in the mounting location and press the strip into the groove. Surface mounting is also possible with the supplied brackets.
Other LED strip lights always require a metal surface underneath. When there are corners in the installation, they can be much more difficult to install. You have to cut and connect led strips together. Here are some factors you should always keep in mind:
Led strips always need a led aluminium profile for installation. There are 3 important reasons:
How do you know if the LED strip is installed incorrectly? The easiest way to see it is the silicone coating on led strip has turned to yellow, because of the HEAT.
Another key factor when installing LED strips is knowing the power (watts) and voltage (volts). First, you need to work out the total power requirements of the system you want to install. In LedStore’s product descriptions, the wattage is multiplied per meter of LED strip, so it’s easy to calculate the total power when you know how many meters of LED strip you have.
Calculating the total power not only helps you find the right power supply, but also tells you how much electricity you are using when the lights are at full brightness.
Once you know the total power, find out the voltage. Our power supplies are 12V or 24V led light strips, except NEON 230V led strip. It is Plug & Play ready. The strips available at LedStore are 90% 24 VDC. Just make sure you know what voltage the tape needs, and find a power supply with that voltage. Choose a power supply at least 10% higher than the wattage consumed by the LED strips.
If your power supply does not have a wattage rating (LedStore products do), it is good to know that: voltage (V) x ampere (A) = wattage of your power supply. For example. 5A 24VDC output means 5 x 24 = 120W
Adjustable LED strip lights can be controlled with control devices available from us. Transformer + controller combinations or transformers with built-in control are available. The controller is selected according to the features you want to control. A TRIAC transformer is usually connected to a wired wall dimmer. The system to be installed with the DALI transformer is connected to the controllers according to the software. For wireless RF and Zigbee control, we offer a comprehensive range of controllers/dimmers/colour and dimming controls in both wall-mounted and hand-held models.
The range includes:
Among the well-known ZIGBEE control systems directly supported are. Philips HUE, ABB Free@Home, DALI. There are separate articles on all of these.
Zigbee,multi-part article series: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5
