I had purchased some of the gold colored hangman bear claws screws at the local big box hardware store, and really liked them. I thought these would be the same from the description, but there is a slight size difference.

I used them on my plaster walls and they hold nice and tight to the wall. I used a cheap battery operated screwdriver, and it did the trick very well. I've also used my own strength to screw them in - and I don't consider myself to be handy.

These black ones are a wee bit longer and the the distrance between the head of the screw and the plate that is flush with the wall is a wee bit longer than the gold.

After screwing one into the wall, the item I had planned to hang on this one did not sit flush with the wall as I had hoped, so I decided to change what I was going to hang in this location. The black one worked fine for a small plate rack - in fact, for some items, this black version with it's extra lenght is probably superior to the gold version.

Since I have a lot of other items of different weights, sizes, and hanger types to hang, I am sure I will use them. Buying here in quantity is cheaper than buying the small boxes at the hardware store. So now I will have a nice supply and I can test future items on current hangers to see which size will work best.
