What is the difference between MDF and melamine board?

MDF and MELAMINE

Melamine is a protective coating on wood fibers, making it a highly durable material. Its smooth surface and high density make it an excellent choice for many applications. Additionally, melamine boards are available in a variety of colors and finishes. If you are looking for a unique piece of furniture, high-quality melamine board mdf are an excellent choice.

MDF and melamine are two materials that look very similar. Both are made from wood fiber and are very strong. MDF is a less expensive material used in many industries. However, melamine has many advantages. For one, it is less likely to crack and is more stable when nailing. It is also more durable, making it an excellent choice for panel furniture.

For Structure

MDF is made from wood fibers, wax, and resin, which are compressed and heated to form a dense, uniform panel. It contains no wood grain and is essentially a smooth, uniform material throughout.
Melamine board is typically a particleboard or MDF core that is coated with a layer of melamine resin-infused paper. This paper is thermally fused to the core to create a hard, durable surface with various decorative finishes.

Surface finish

MDF has a plain, smooth surface without any texture. It is usually used as a substrate material.
Melamine board has a pre-finished surface with a decorative pattern or solid color.

Durability

MDF is generally more durable than standard particleboard but less durable than solid wood. It can be prone to moisture damage and may swell or warp if exposed to excessive moisture.
Melamine board is relatively durable, thanks to its hard, scratch-resistant surface. However, the core material (MDF or particleboard) can still be susceptible to moisture damage if not adequately sealed.

Application

MDF is commonly used in interior applications such as cabinets, bookshelves, furniture, and moldings. It is often painted or veneered to achieve the desired appearance.
Melamine boards are used similarly to MDF, but are preferred when a decorative, low-maintenance finish is required. It is commonly used in kitchen cabinets, closet systems, wall panels, and office furniture.

All in all, melamine board has greater decorability than MDF, and its durability is better than MDF.
